You know we‘re ALL about optimistic living here on the this site, but optimism is not always a guarantee. Looking on the brighter side of life takes some attention, a little bit of skill and lots of mindfulness in the face of adversity, hardship or pain.

 

No matter what you may be experiencing, there are always ways that you can breathe new hope into unfortunate circumstances so you can come out stronger and triumphant. 

 

The next time you are needing some major pick-me-up, don’t allow yourself to marinate in a rut of despair. Try these six techniques instead:

 

1. Count Your Blessings, Baby

It always feels good to identify what’s going well in your life because things could have been a lot different (in a not so good way). There are always things to be grateful for, even when things aren’t going exactly as you wish they would. Plus, when you turn your focus to gratitude your naturally attract more things to be grateful for. Studies show that practicing gratitude can increase your happiness level by 25% or so and this makes practicing gratitude a very practical way to boost your mood.

 

2. Be Flexible 

Reality changes quite often, which means that things can always turn around for the better at any moment. Plus, when you’re flexible in your thinking your circumstances have room to flow more freely because what you resist ultimately persists. Flexibility can also offer an alternative way for you to view a situation or any problem that you may be facing. However, when you are rigid it will hinder you from moving forward. Which brings me to my next point…

 

3. Keep It Moving… Forward That Is

Sometimes you may feel as though you are literally walking through a dark cloud of deep and intense emotions or experiences, but if you can keep moving forward then you can dissolve them as you heal, grow and change. Holding on to bitterness, resentment and other emotions will keep you stuck in what you are going through. You just can’t move forward if you are holding on to what needs to be let go of.

 

4. Understand The Why of Your Situation

This means focusing on what is REALLY going on, getting to the surface of things and finding the meaning or the lesson in what you are going through. When you understand the why of your situation, you gain clarity on your experiences and what they mean for you. You also gain acceptance in the process.

 

5. Envision Your Successful Outcome

When you allow yourself to envision a successful outcome, you are setting your intention for everything to work out in your favor. It allows you to get clear on what you really want to experience. Plus, when you envision your successful outcome you put positive energy towards creating your victory so go ahead and make those mental snapshots of your desires.

 

6. Add More Fun To Your Life

Fun can be something that you haven’t done in a while or it can be something completely new. And it doesn’t have to take a lot of money either.

When you are able to have a good time despite your circumstances, you actually bring new, fresh and positive energy into your situation. It also allows you to enjoy living in the moment. Doing things that are fun and that you enjoy helps you to remember life’s divinity and promise. 

I’m not saying for you to become so happy-go-lucky that you become impractical, numb or totally ignore your life experiences, but you don’t have to let your circumstances be a life sentence of despair.

Looking on the brighter side of life allows you to be in control of what you put out into the universe. Your happiness is ultimately up to you. You always have the power to control how you feel in the long haul, so use your experiences to build who you are and to create a better future for yourself.
